The inspiration for this website came from a Scripture song I heard over 10 years ago at a ladies retreat:

Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
A word fitly spoken shall be,
Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
Let my life bring glory to thee.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Proverbs 25:11

Although some of the "stories" listed are made up, the Scriptural truths they illustrate are very real and can be of great benefit in a Christian's walk with the Lord and as illustrations for the lost.

It is my heart's desire that amongst the pages of this website, the Christian find words of encouragement and be spurred on to service for our Lord, and that seekers of the truth find Salvation in the timeless truths of God's Word for these troubled times.

The Sparrow Has Flown Home

The Sparrow Has Flown Home

She’s just a little sparrow,
A weakened vessel made of clay;
Yearning for the day break,
When the shadows will flee away.

Looking for the Sun of Righteousness
To arise with healing in His wings.
As the Saviour waits with open arms,
This little sparrow begins to sing.

Her Heavenly Father numbers each little hair;
Not one of them can come to lasting harm.
Not a sparrow can fall apart from His will –
She is safely resting in His everlasting arms.

Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of one of His own.
Her Father waits to receive His child –
Into the loving arms of Jesus she has flown.

Now she is flying near God’s Heavenly altar,
Forever to worship before His throne;
Dwelling in the Lord’s presence –
This little sparrow has flown home.

No Room in the Inn

No Room in the Inn

Words: A. L. Skilton.
Music: “Carter,” E. Grace Updegraff (1871-1964)

No beautiful chamber, no soft cradle bed,
No place but a manger, nowhere for His head;
No praises of gladness, no thought of their sin,
No glory but sadness, no room in the inn.

Refrain

No room, no room, for Jesus,
O give Him welcome free,
Lest you should hear at Heaven’s gate,
“There is no room for thee.”

No sweet consecration, no seeking His part,
No humiliation, no place in the heart;
No thought of the Savior, no sorrow for sin,
No prayer for His favor, no room in the inn.

Refrain

No one to receive Him, no welcome while here,
No balm to relieve Him, no staff but a spear;
No seeking His treasure, no weeping for sin,
No doing His pleasure, no room in the inn.

Refrain

Ready For Christmas?

Ready For Christmas?

“Ready for Christmas,” she said with a sigh,
As she gave a last touch to the gifts piled high,
Then wearily sat for a moment and read,
Till soon, very soon, she was nodding her head.

Then quietly spoke a voice in her dream,
“Ready for Christmas? What do you mean?
Ready for Christmas when only last week
You wouldn’t acknowledge your friend on the street.

“Ready for Christmas, while holding a grudge?
Perhaps you had better let God be the judge,
Why, how can the Christ-child come and abide
In the heart that is selfish and filled with pride?

“Ready for Christmas when only today
A beggar lad came and you turned him away
Without even a smile to show that you cared?
The little he asked – it could have been spared.

“Ready for Christmas? You’ve worked, it is true,
But just doing the things that you wanted to do.
Ready for Christmas? Your circle’s too small –
Why, you are not ready for Christmas at all!”

She awoke with a start and a cry of despair,
“There’s so little time and I’ve still to prepare.
O Father, forgive me, I see what You mean,
To be ready means more than a house swept clean.”

Yes, more than the giving of gifts and a tree,
It’s the heart swept clean that He wants to see;
A heart that is free from bitterness, sin –
Ready for Christmas – and ready for HIM.

A revised version of the poem by:
Alice Hansche Mortenson

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

23rd Psalm – Assurance

The 23rd Psalm – Assurance

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD…

That’s Relationship!

I SHALL NOT WANT…

That’s Supply!

HE MAKETH ME TO LIE DOWN IN GREEN PASTURES…

That’s Rest!

HE LEADETH ME BESIDE THE STILL WATERS…

That’s Refreshment!

HE RESTORETH MY SOUL…

That’s Healing!

HE LEADETH ME IN THE PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS…

That’s Guidance!

FOR HIS NAME SAKE…

That’s Purpose!

YEA, THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH…

That’s Challenge!

I WILL FEAR NO EVIL…

That’s Assurance!

FOR THOU ART WITH ME…

That’s Faithfulness!

THY ROD AND THY STAFF THEY COMFORT ME…

That’s Shelter!

THOU PREPAREST A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES…

That’s Hope!

THOU ANOINEST MY HEAD WITH OIL…

That’s Consecration!

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER…

That’s Abundance!

SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY SHALL FOLLOW ME ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE…

That’s Blessing!

AND I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD…

That’s Security!

FOREVER…

That’s Eternity!

Pathway Of Pain

Pathway Of Pain

(or The Way To God)

If my days were untroubled and my heart always light,
Would I seek that fair land where there is no night?

If I never grew weary with the weight of my load,
Would I search for God’s Peace at the end of the road?

If I never knew sickness and never felt pain,
Would I reach for a hand to help and sustain?

If I walked not with sorrow and lived without loss,
Would my soul seek sweet solace at the foot of the cross?

If all I desired was mine day by day,
Would I kneel before God and earnestly pray?

If God sent no “winter” to freeze me with fear,
Would I yearn for the warmth of “spring” every year?

I ask myself this and the answer is plain –
If my life were all pleasure and I never knew pain

I’d seek God less often and need Him much less,
For God’s sought more often in times of distress.

And no one knows God or sees Him as plain
As those who have met Him on “The Pathway of Pain.”

because He laid down His life for us…

O Taste And See

Oh Taste And See

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He is more than life to me.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
If only I could help you see.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
Without Him my life would be in vain.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
Without Him there is too much heartache and pain.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He alone is my strength in times of trouble.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He picked up the pieces when all had crumbled.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He is everything to me.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He died on Calvary’s tree.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
He is my rock and my foundation.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
I owe to Him my complete salvation.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good –
Please, come and see and taste.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good
There is really no time to waste.

Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good
Jesus is calling you; don’t turn away.
Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good
Won’t you give Him your heart today?

blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
