The inspiration for this website came from a Scripture song I heard over 10 years ago at a ladies retreat:

Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
A word fitly spoken shall be,
Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
Let my life bring glory to thee.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Proverbs 25:11

Although some of the "stories" listed are made up, the Scriptural truths they illustrate are very real and can be of great benefit in a Christian's walk with the Lord and as illustrations for the lost.

It is my heart's desire that amongst the pages of this website, the Christian find words of encouragement and be spurred on to service for our Lord, and that seekers of the truth find Salvation in the timeless truths of God's Word for these troubled times.

The Contest

One day, a group of scientists got together and decided that man had come a long way, and no longer needed God.

They chose one scientists to go and tell Him that they were done with Him.

The scientist walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided we no longer need You. We are to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so we're just going to go on without You."
God listened to the scientist very patiently and kindly, then said to him, "Well, how about we have a test– a man-making contest."

The scientist replied with an enthusiastic "Okay! Great!"
Then God said, "We are going to do this just like I did in the old days with Adam."
The scientist still said, "Sure! No problem!" He bent down and grabbed himself a handful of dirt.

God looked at him and said, "No, no, no, you get your own dirt." 🙂

Man thinks he has come a long way in this life, but what he fails to remember is that God is the one who has made everything that exists. If you believe that God is the One Who created everything that exists, that God sent his only Son to die for your sins, and that God is the only one that can save you from that sin, then forward this to those you love.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10: 9-11,13  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

“…We will serve the LORD.”

"But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

A young man, James Taylor, had lived a worldly life and was a leader in opposing a revival that had swept his neighborhood.

The morning of his wedding day he awoke with the words of Joshua 24:15 on his mind. In earlier years he had memorized that verse.

Unlike our modern customs, he put in a full day’s work before his wedding that evening. As he went about his labors, the Holy Spirit convicted his heart, and he accepted Jesus as his Savior. Then he said, "Yes, we will serve the Lord!"

At first his bride was dismayed by this decision, but soon became a believer, and a Christian home was established.

You say, "What’s so unusual about that story?"

Well, that young man was the great-grandfather of J. Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission. Nor has the influence of that first decision been without present-day consequences. The general director of that organization is the great grandson of the founder.

Though saving faith cannot be transmitted from parents to children, God does use the holy influence of fathers and mothers upon their offspring and successive generations.

What if James Taylor had not yielded to Christ? What if his decision had been different? It is possible that a company of dedicated missionaries would not be serving in the Orient now under an organization whose founding was a direct result of that mans conversion.

The trail of a right choice in your home may lead to great blessings many years down the road. – P.R.V.

My Attorney

After living what I felt was a "decent" life, my time on earth came to the end. The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a courthouse. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.

The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn’t take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, "Let us begin."

The prosecutor rose and said, "My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell." He proceeded to tell of lies I told, things I stole, and in the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horrible perversions once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed, I couldn’t look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins even I completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I was guilty of those things, but I did some good in my life – couldn’t that at least equal out part of the harm I’d done?

Satan finished with a fury and said, "This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise."

When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior.

He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, "Hi, Father," then He turned to address the court. "Satan was correct in saying this man sinned, I won’t deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished."
Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, "However, I died on the cross so this person might have eternal life and he accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine."

My Lord continued with, "His name is written in the Book of Life and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy."

As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,"There is nothing else that needs to be done. I’ve done it all."

The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips… "This man is free The penalty for him was already paid in full. Case dismissed"

As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, "I won’t give up, I will win the next one."

I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, "Have you ever lost a case?" Christ lovingly smiled and said, "Everyone that comes to Me and asked Me to represent them, received the same verdict as you, "PAID IN FULL."

The road to success is not straight.

There is a curve called Failure,

A loop called Confusion,

Speed bumps called Friends,

Red lights called Enemies,

Caution lights called Family.

You will have flats called Jobs.

But, if you have a spare called Determination,

An engine called Perseverance,

Insurance called Faith,

A driver called Jesus,

And you will make it to a place called Success.

So Little Time

So Little Time

By John R. Rice

So little time! The harvest will be over.
Our reaping done, we reapers taken Home.
Report our work to Jesus, Lord of harvest,
And hope He’ll smile and that He’ll say, “Well done!”

Chorus

Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest!
Today is given us lost souls to win.
Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning.
Today we’ll go to bring some sinner in.

How many times I should have strongly pleaded;
How often did I feel to strictly warn.
The Spirit moved, oh had I pled for Jesus!
The grain is fallen, lost ones not reborn.

Chorus

Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest!
Today is given us lost souls to win.
Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning.
Today we’ll go to bring some sinner in.

Despite the heat, the ceaseless toil, the hardship,
The broken heart over those we cannot win;
Misunderstood, because we’re oft peculiar,
Still no regrets we’ll have but for our sin.

Chorus

Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest!
Today is given us lost souls to win.
Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning.
Today we’ll go to bring some sinner in.

A day of pleasure, or a feast of friendship,
A house or car or garments fair or fame,
Will all be trash, when souls are brought to Heaven,
And then how sad to face the slackers blame!

Chorus

Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest!
Today is given us lost souls to win.
Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning.
Today we’ll go to bring some sinner in.

The harvest white, with reapers few is wasting
And many souls will die and never know.
The love of Christ, the joy of sins forgiven.
Oh let us weep and love and pray and go!

Chorus

Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest!
Today is given us lost souls to win.
Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning.
Oh will you go and bring some sinner in?

*********

But if the watchman see the sword come,
and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned;
if the sword come, and take any person from among them,
he is taken away in his iniquity;
but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
