The inspiration for this website came from a Scripture song I heard over 10 years ago at a ladies retreat:

Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
A word fitly spoken shall be,
Like Apples of Gold in pictures of silver
Let my life bring glory to thee.

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Proverbs 25:11

Although some of the "stories" listed are made up, the Scriptural truths they illustrate are very real and can be of great benefit in a Christian's walk with the Lord and as illustrations for the lost.

It is my heart's desire that amongst the pages of this website, the Christian find words of encouragement and be spurred on to service for our Lord, and that seekers of the truth find Salvation in the timeless truths of God's Word for these troubled times.

Disappointment – His Appointment

Disappointment – His Appointment

"Disappointment – His appointment,"
Change one letter, then I see
That the thwarting of my purpose
Is God's better choice for me.
His appointment must be a blessing,
Though it may come in disguise,
For the end from the beginning
Open to His wisdom lies.

"Disappointment – His appointment,"
Whose? The Lord, who loves me best,
Understands and knows me fully,
Who my faith and love would test;
For, like a loving earthly parent,
He rejoices when He knows
That His child accepts, unquestioned,
All that from His wisdom flows.

"Disappointment – His appointment,"
"No good thing will He withhold,"
From denials oft we gather
Treasures of His love untold,
Well He knows each broken purpose
Leads to fuller, deeper trust,
And the end of all His dealings
Proves our God is wise and just.

"Disappointment – His appointment,"
Lord, I take it, then, as such.
Like the clay in hands of potter,
Yielding wholly to Thy touch.
All my life's plan is Thy moulding,
Not one single choice be mine;
Let me answer, unrepining –
"Father, not my will, but Thine."

For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me:
and many such things are with him.

Job 23:14

    Dear Sir in Christ,

What a wonderful site for encouraging and edification for Christian life. Since I am from India, many Indians may visit this site and will be blessed.

  • Thank you for publishing this, Angela. My mother used to read it to me when I was a young person experiencing disappointment. Unhappily I didn't receive or believe the message of the poem then. Now I believe it's true, and it's very precious to me. I've been a Christian since childhood, but it has only been the last 10 years or so that I've learned to trust God and His ways, especially in the disappointments.

    Many blessings,

  • Tricia, what a blessed testimony! Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for the kind words. May Christ be glorified!
